Zorin OS 18 has officially launched, providing a revamped interface and improved Windows application compatibility, aimed at easing transition for Windows and macOS users.
Revamped Interface and Features
The newly released Zorin OS 18, developed by the Dublin-based Zorin brothers, features a refreshed desktop interface. Notable changes include rounded corners, a floating panel, lighter color schemes, and smoother animations. Updates to core applications like Files, Calendar, Camera, and Mail align with this new aesthetic.
The desktop's usability is further enhanced with a new window tiling manager, allowing users to snap windows into predefined layouts by dragging them to screen edges or corners. Keyboard shortcuts offer swift organization of windows.
Enhanced Compatibility and Support
Zorin OS 18 improves handling of Windows installers by suggesting Linux alternatives available in the software store or as web versions. This release includes support for AMD Ryzen AI NPU6, improved AES encryption on Zen 4/5 CPUs, and compatibility with Intel Panther Lake systems.
Transitioning users will benefit from Windows-like layouts while enjoying Linux's freedom, security, and customization.
Pricing and Availability
Zorin OS 18 is available in two versions: Zorin OS 18 Core, which is free and includes essential features, and Zorin OS 18 Pro, priced at $47.99 including tax, which offers premium desktop layouts, advanced customization, and additional software. Professional support is also available for Pro users.
Current Core Beta users can upgrade via the Software Updater, with a direct upgrade path from Zorin OS 17 to 18 to be enabled soon.
