After a nine-month hiatus, the highly anticipated update for Manor Lords has finally been released. Greg Styczeń, lead developer at Slavic Magic, acknowledged the significant gap between updates, attributing the delay to the ambitious expansion of their team and the focus on addressing numerous issues simultaneously.
New Features and Improvements
The latest update is nothing short of expansive, showcasing a complete overhaul of the gameplay with several enhancements. Players can now explore new maps and take advantage of preselectable starting locations, which offer a fresh strategic angle. The introduction of new modes, including the Duel mode versus improved AI and the four-Lord Fractured Realm, adds depth and variation to the gameplay.
Significant changes were made in terms of job roles and construction options. The availability of new jobs and buildings like the quarry, lime kiln, and stonemason presents players with a broader spectrum of resource management strategies. Linked resources, such as roughstone, mortar, and dressed stone, further enrich the complexity and realism of city-building dynamics.
Strategic Enhancements
The update introduces meticulously designed stone castles, along with innovations like ladders and a hover preview feature that allows players to preview soldiers within buildings. Gates can now be individually opened, and a modernized system for positioning units on walls ramps up the tactical gameplay.
Moreover, the división of regions into environments which offer specific affinities for certain structures marks a breakthrough in building efficiency; for example, pig pens operate more efficiently in woodland areas. The maintenance of structures, a reworked approval system, and a host of balance changes ensure an optimal challenge for players seeking a sophisticated strategic experience.
A Richer Culinary Palette
In an interesting twist that adds flavor to the game, the update alters agricultural and hunting yields. Vegetables are now diversified into cabbages, carrots, and beetroots, while meats have been branched out into categories such as mutton, chevon, pork, beef, chicken, and small game. These refinements promise to enhance the economic planning elements of the game.
The breadth of adjustments also includes practical innovations like river fishing and added wall snapping points to simplify tower construction. Against the backdrop of these changes, Styczeń warns that due to their scale, older save games will unfortunately be incompatible with the new system.
The experimental beta patch is currently available for players, with Manor Lords continuing to be accessible on Steam at a temporary promotional price of $25.99 / £22.75, lasting until Monday, October 6. This update sets a new benchmark for in-depth strategic gameplay, firmly positioning Manor Lords as a standout title in the genre.
