NotebookLM introduces its Deep Research feature, aiming to streamline research with automated, sourced reports.
Feature Enhancements and File Support
NotebookLM's new Deep Research feature automates the process of collating information from hundreds of websites. Users can enter a topic and select “Web” as the source to generate reports using Fast Research for summaries or Deep Research for detailed plans. The update further refines search queries in real time and compiles a source-grounded report.
In addition to text documents, NotebookLM now supports Google Sheets, Microsoft Word drafts, and PDFs via shared Drive URLs. Users can also upload images of handwritten notes or brochures, enhancing flexibility and efficiency.
Release Timeline
Google announced that the NotebookLM upgrade will be available to users within the week. However, the specific availability could vary based on users' region and Workspace plan.
User Guidance and Tools Integration
The new update integrates uploads, web research, AI summaries, and analysis. This allows users to leverage tools such as audio overviews and mind maps, with consolidated research management on a single platform.
Although the feature automates report generation, users are advised to validate source credibility and context for reliability.
