Cloud Imperium Suspends 600 Accounts to Protect Game Integrity

18 Jun 2024

Star Citizen has been plagued by cheaters exploiting systems to gain more in-game currency for months. Developer Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) has finally taken action by suspending over 600 accounts. Previously, players were able to exploit various bugs to duplicate ships and collect more alpha United Earth Credits (aUEC), which they could then sell for real money.

Addressing Game Integrity

One of the most prevalent exploits allowed players to sell cargo multiple times due to a bug, causing frustration for legitimate players and disrupting the in-game economy. The clutter of duplicated ships also impacted server performance for other players.

After numerous complaints, CIG addressed the issue and announced the account suspensions in a statement on a Star Citizen chat forum. Senior director of player relations, Will Leverett, emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the game and the efforts of dedicated backers.

Community Reactions

While some players have suggested humorous punishments for cheaters, CIG's focus is on preventing further exploitation of the game. Leverett encouraged players to report exploits and assured that continued abuse for personal gain will not be tolerated.

Overall, the community is relieved to see CIG taking action against cheaters and hopes for quicker responses to such issues in the future. The developer's commitment to addressing cheating and exploitation is a positive step towards maintaining a fair and enjoyable gaming experience for all players.
