Apple has removed the dating safety app Tea and its rival TeaOnHer from the App Store globally due to privacy violations, according to TechCrunch. Appfigures first noted the removal, which Apple later confirmed.
Reasons for App Removal
Apple stated that Tea, officially known as Tea Dating Advice, and TeaOnHer did not adhere to its content moderation and user privacy standards. The apps reportedly exposed personal data, like drivers' licenses, violating App Store guideline 5.1.2. This guideline bars the use or sharing of personal information without explicit consent.
The apps also failed to include necessary features, such as options to block and remove content. Developer Code of Conduct section 5.6 further requires these features for user-generated content. Additionally, excessive complaints and negative reviews contributed to the decision. Apple informed the developers but no remedies were made.
Current Availability
Despite being removed from the Apple App Store, the apps are still available on the Android Google Play store. Apple cited a range of reasons, including guideline breaches and unresolved user complaints, for their decision to delist the apps. The actions emphasize the company's commitment to strict content moderation and user privacy.
