Google has unveiled a refreshed look for earbud battery notifications on Android devices, enhancing user experience through a series of subtle yet effective design changes. The latest updates, rolled out via Google Play services version 25.30.31, replace the conventional battery icon-and-percentage layout with more intuitive color-coded rings encircling each earbud and the charging case.
This new format provides users with additional clarity and status updates. A small symbol above each ring now signals specific states, such as a lightning bolt when the earbuds or case are charging. Notably, the charging case can also display a discharging icon alongside a green ring to indicate that it’s actively powering the earbuds, offering insights previously unavailable in the notification system.

Revamping the User Interface
These enhancements bring Android's notification system more in line with the ring-style battery UI that has been a part of the Bluetooth Device details page unveiled on Pixel devices. While the primary percentage notification remains intact, the addition of color-coded rings and status symbols aims to provide a more visually engaging and informative interface, aiding users in quickly assessing the status of their devices.
This update is not just confined to Pixel users. Thanks to the widespread distribution through Google Play services, any Android device can benefit from this improved notification system—an inclusive approach that ensures all users enjoy a cohesive design language across their devices.
The changes underscore Google's continued efforts to refine the Android experience, enhancing functionality while maintaining a visually appealing aesthetic. As always, user feedback will likely shape further refinements in future updates, potentially leading to even more intuitive ways of managing device notifications and battery alerts.
