Google is enhancing Android to combat scams involving screen sharing within financial apps. New warnings will display during suspicious activities.
Protection Features
When an unfamiliar call is ongoing and a banking app is open, Android will trigger a warning screen. This screen cautions users of potential scams and provides an option to end the call and close screen sharing. Additionally, if users choose to proceed, a 30-second delay encourages careful reconsideration before proceeding.
Testing and Rollout
This protection feature was initially tested in the UK and is now being implemented in the US. Google has collaborated with participating brands such as Cash App and Chase to ensure coverage. Future expansions include plans for Brazil and India.
The company states that these measures are essential to curb the sophisticated tactics scammers employ to deceive users.
