Google has rolled out version 4.3 of its Home app, introducing a new edge-to-edge design for Android 15 and later devices. This update primarily benefits Android users by allowing apps to extend content behind system bars, providing a seamless interface experience.
Improved Device Controls
The updated controls for lights, plugs, and switches offer quicker access to actions and feature new shortcuts. Notably, local control of Matter-enabled devices enhances reliability and offers a response time improvement by up to two times. The updates emphasize usability and speed, enhancing user interaction with smart home devices.
Advanced Automation Options
Automation features within the Google Home app have seen a significant upgrade. The “Home” and “Away” modes now have a redesigned editor allowing full customization. Users can set conditions and new actions with ease, and automation will continue to function without manual intervention. This shift suggests increased efficiency and personalization in home automation.
Enhanced Camera and Thermostat Features
Camera users can now utilize feedback cards to share opinions on AI-generated descriptions and improve familiar face detection with simple thumbs-up or thumbs-down inputs. Additionally, the update introduces refined controls for presence-aware camera and thermostat actions, allowing adjustments on a per-device basis.
Minor bug fixes accompany these enhancements, addressing issues like device setup crashes, casting errors on Android, onboarding errors with Ask Home, and duplicates in thermostat photo icons. These fixes reflect ongoing improvements in the user experience.
