Google Adds App Bubbling Feature to Android Tablets

27 Oct 2025

Google is testing a new app bubbling feature aimed at improving multitasking on Android tablets. This development is found in the Android Canary 2510 code.

Feature Details and Implementation

The app bubbling feature allows users to drag an app icon to a corner, converting it into a floating window. This is designed to streamline switching and enhance control when managing multiple apps. Currently, Android supports bubbling for conversations only, but this new update could extend it to entire apps.

A tutorial and animation are likely to accompany the function to guide first-time users through the process.

Release Timing and Scope

The app bubbling feature is expected to be included in either the first Quarterly Platform Release of Android 16 or possibly Android 17 by 2026.

  • Google tests app bubbling on Android 2510.
  • Feature enables apps to run as floating windows for better multitasking.
  • Tutorials and animations are anticipated for user guidance.
  • Expected release in Android 16 or 17 around 2026.
  • Seeks to make tablet multitasking more seamless.

Expanding app bubbling aims to capitalize on larger displays, offering a refined multitasking experience.
