Google Home App Undergoes Major Redesign on iOS

29 Sep 2025

The Google Home app is receiving a substantial refresh with a new design that's progressively rolling out to iOS users. The transformation is highlighted by a cleaner interface and redefined navigation elements.

One of the significant changes includes the renaming of the Favorites tab to "Home," while the previous Devices and Settings tabs have been removed. Instead, the app now features a prominently placed “Ask Home” search bar, providing enhanced user interaction.

Gemini Integration Enhances User Experience

With the integration of Gemini, Google Home introduces a more dynamic and interactive experience. This feature is seamlessly incorporated within the app, available through the "Ask Home" search box. It empowers users to automate tasks using natural language commands, allows searching through video and home history, and delivers AI-generated event summaries and notifications. However, users will need to accept new terms to access the dedicated conversation screen provided by this AI feature.

For Android users, the scenario is slightly different. The update containing the new UI is not enabled by default. An Android user, running Google Home version 4.0.53.2 on a OnePlus device, indicated that the interface could be activated through minor adjustments, pointing to Google’s control over the rollout via server-side mechanisms. This suggests that the company might be timing its official release, possibly waiting until after October 1 to enable wider access.

These substantial interface changes show Google's intention to maintain a streamlined and efficient user experience across its apps. The slow and controlled release of updates illustrates a strategic approach, ensuring readiness and compatibility across diverse devices and platforms.

Overall, as Google Home continues to evolve, users can expect further enhancements that broaden the app’s functionalities and improve daily interactions with their smart homes.
