Sora, the AI video app by OpenAI, reached an estimated 470,000 installs on its first day on the Google Play Store.
Market Scope and Metrics
Sora's Android release was available across several markets: the U.S., Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
- Android first-day installs: 470,000
- iOS first-day revised estimate: 110,000
- U.S. Android installs: 296,000
According to app intelligence firm Appfigures, these numbers indicate higher interest compared to the initial iOS launch, which originally started as an invite-only app in the U.S. and Canada.
User Engagement
Sora offers features that allow users to generate videos from prompts, resulting in animated "Cameos" of themselves and their friends. These videos are displayed in a vertical, scrollable feed.
The iOS app had earlier achieved over a million installs within its first week, ranking prominently in the U.S. App Store. Sora's competitor, Meta AI, has also released a similar video tool.
