The Google Home app version 4.3 introduces enhanced device controls and faster response times for Android users, alongside a slew of other updates enhancing automation and user interface.
Improved Device Controls
The latest update to the Google Home app features improved controls for common devices such as lights, plugs, and switches. These enhancements make it easier for users to access frequently used settings and allow Matter-enabled devices to operate offline, effectively doubling response speed on Android devices. The enhanced controls are initially available in the Public Preview channel and will soon roll out to the stable version.
Automation and User Interface Upgrades
Google has upgraded the automation editor in the app, introducing more advanced conditions, actions, and starters, while keeping triggers the same. The app now features an edge-to-edge layout on Android 15 and later; this offers an extended view by displaying content behind the navigation and status bars.
Another significant update is the integration of Gemini AI, which provides AI-generated descriptions for recorded camera activities and a feedback system for improving face detection.
Release on Multiple Platforms
Google Home v4.3 is already available for iPhone users and will be released to Android users in the coming days. Bug fixes in this version include resolving issues with device setup, crashes during casting, and the reappearance of the Ask Home onboarding process. It also fixes duplicate thermostat photo icons, contributing to a smoother user experience.
