Microsoft is set to end support for the Microsoft Lens app on iOS and Android, removing it from app stores on 2026-02-09. Users can create new scans until 2026-03-09, after which only viewing existing scans will be possible if logged into the last active account in Microsoft Lens.
Transition to OneDrive
Microsoft suggests using OneDrive’s built-in scanner as a replacement. This feature, accessed via the plus symbol, uploads directly to the cloud. Unlike Microsoft Lens, OneDrive does not support local storage of scans, which may concern users preferring offline options.
App History and Concerns
Originally launched as Office Lens for Windows Phone in 2014, and renamed Microsoft Lens in 2021, the app has been popular for its ease of use and local storage capabilities. However, users have noted issues with mandatory account linking potentially exposing personal scans to work accounts, and new updates requiring cloud-connected services for PDF storage in Microsoft 365.
