WhatsApp is continuing its trend of innovation by introducing a new feature that allows users to translate messages directly within the app. This in-chat translation feature is now available for both Android and iOS devices, marking a significant step forward in enhancing multilingual communication. Users no longer need to rely on external tools as they can simply long-press any message, select 'Translate', choose the relevant source or target language, and even save this setting for future use.
This new feature functions seamlessly across personal chats, group conversations, and even Channel updates, providing a comprehensive solution for diverse language interactions. Android users have an added advantage as they can enable automatic translation for entire chat threads. This means that any future messages received in a foreign language will be translated instantly, making the conversation flow more naturally and efficiently.
At launch, iPhone users can access translations in over 19 languages, whereas Android users start their journey with six languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. Regardless of the platform, all translations are processed locally on the user's device. This local processing ensures that user privacy and data security are top priorities, aligning with WhatsApp's commitment to safeguarding user information.
The rollout for this feature begins immediately, with plans to expand to more languages over time. However, WhatsApp has yet to specify when this functionality will be available for web or desktop applications, leaving many users eagerly anticipating future updates.
Aadhaar Access via WhatsApp in India
In a separate development, the Indian government has integrated Aadhaar downloads into WhatsApp via the MyGov Helpdesk chatbot. This convenient feature simplifies the process of accessing essential documents for Indian citizens. To utilize this service, users need to save the official MyGov Helpdesk number (+91-9013151515), initiate a chat, and select the DigiLocker services option. After confirming their account and entering their Aadhaar number, users can complete the authentication process using a One-Time Password (OTP). Once verified, they can select Aadhaar and receive the document as a PDF directly through WhatsApp.
This development highlights WhatsApp's growing role as a platform not just for personal communication but also for significant government and public services. Through these advancements, WhatsApp continues to redefine how users around the world connect, communicate, and conduct transactions in an increasingly digital era.
