Google Introduces Personalized Calling Cards on Android

28 Aug 2025

Google has unveiled a new feature for Android users that allows for a more personalized call experience. The company has introduced customizable Calling Cards to its Phone app, offering a novel way to revitalize call screens with personal touches. Drawing inspiration from features typically associated with iOS, Google aims to give Android users a degree of personalization previously unavailable.

The new feature lets users enhance their call screen aesthetics by allowing them to tweak various graphical elements, including the ability to display full-screen photos and stylize the text. With the launch of version 188 of the Phone app, this updated call screen represents a significant shift from the standard tiny contact photos, enabling edge-to-edge imagery during calls.

Enabling and Customizing Calling Cards

With Calling Cards now part of the stable release, users can expect an improved interface for both incoming and active calls. When the feature is activated, a dedicated banner appears on the app's Home tab. By navigating through this, users can find the Calling Card page, where they can manage and design their cards. The app integration allows you to edit your cards both in the Phone app itself and via Google Contacts, ensuring a seamless experience across Google's application ecosystem.

Creating a Calling Card is straightforward. Users can select an image from their camera roll, gallery, or Google Photos and then choose their preferred font style and color for the contact’s name. While it's optional to set the image as the default contact photo, once the card is saved, it syncs with your Google account. This synchronization ensures that the personalized template is accessible across all your devices.

A Unique Approach to Personalization

Unlike Apple’s Contact Posters, which are shared with other users, Google's Calling Cards are meant solely for personal enjoyment. This aspect of privacy ensures that only the user gets to appreciate the customized call screen. For those seeking a more individualistic touch to their phone interactions, Calling Cards serve as a uniquely private yet creatively fulfilling tool.

As technology continues to evolve and platforms borrow functionalities from one another, the introduction of Calling Cards highlights Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience through personalization while maintaining privacy. This feature holds the promise of making everyday interactions more meaningful, offering a glimpse into the future of Android's evolving interface aesthetics.
