Google has altered the Play Store, limiting Android users' ability to uninstall updates for system apps directly through the platform.
Play Store Versions
The change was observed in Play Store versions 49.1.32-31 and 49.2.25-31. Users can no longer find the uninstall button for system apps. The Play Store now shows only 'Open' and 'Update' options for these apps.
Accessing Uninstall Function
To uninstall an update, users must navigate through Android Settings: Apps > See all apps > choose the app > tap the three-dot menu > select 'Uninstall updates'. This adds complexity to what was a straightforward process.
Impact on User Control
This change reduces user control over system apps, as the ability to quickly undo a faulty update is now more cumbersome. The lack of an official announcement from Google about this shift has added to user frustration. This move may impact Android's appeal, which traditionally included flexible app management.
