Google has released version 4.3 of the Google Home app, bringing significant improvements in device control and automation. The update is currently available on iOS, with a staggered rollout for Android to follow.
Device Control Enhancements
The latest version introduces upgraded visuals and faster access to controls for lights, plugs, and switches. Notably, Android users with Matter-compatible devices paired with a Matter hub can now control these devices locally. This local control allows for quicker response times and enhanced reliability, particularly when internet connectivity is unstable.
Automation and AI Features
The update enhances Home and Away automations with a more comprehensive editor that lets users set precise conditions and triggers. Additionally, presence-aware actions are now available for cameras and thermostats, allowing devices to react appropriately based on user presence.
Edge-to-edge interfaces provide a more immersive user experience on devices running OS version 15 or newer. Camera AI features have been improved with feedback cards, empowering users to refine familiar-face detection by voting on camera-identified faces.
Performance and Reliability
Version 4.3 also addresses issues such as setup flow crashes, casting session crashes, and onboarding delays. It's important to note that some features may be rolled out gradually and may rely on hardware compatibility. Full local Matter control requires appropriate Matter-compatible devices or a hub.
