Android Auto Tests New Multi-Card Media Interface

29 Oct 2025

Android Auto is testing a swipeable multi-card media interface in its v15.6.154404 beta version. This update aims to streamline the use of audio apps for drivers by displaying multiple media cards on the dashboard, allowing users to swipe between music, podcast, and audiobook apps without having to reopen them.

Interface and Safety Benefits

The design is compatible with the split-screen Coolwalk layout. It focuses on reducing driver interactions with the dashboard, an important safety consideration. Research highlights that glances away from the road longer than two seconds significantly increase crash risks. The multi-card interface aims to minimize distractions by presenting essential controls like play, pause, and skip directly on the dashboard.

Functionality and Potential Rollout

The media cards, ordered by recency, encourage users to access apps quickly. This feature could simplify multi-app audio workflows compared to existing platforms like Apple CarPlay. Although currently in beta, the finalized version may take weeks or months to roll out, depending on server-side testing and flagging systems. The company has not confirmed a specific release date.
