Proton Mail Introduces Redesigned App with Offline Mode

26 Sep 2025

The latest update to the Proton Mail app brings a sleek redesign and enhanced functionality to both Android and iOS users. With version 7.0.10, Proton Mail continues its commitment to improving secure email services by introducing several features designed to optimize user interaction and convenience.

Unified Code Base for Consistency

In an effort to streamline development and introduce new features more quickly, Proton Mail has aligned its code base for both iOS and Android versions of the app. This not only ensures a consistent user experience across platforms but also makes it easier to roll out new updates simultaneously.

Enhanced User Interface

The interface has undergone significant changes, with the compose button now located at the bottom right of the Inbox, dynamically resizing based on scrolling behavior. This feature mirrors the Gmail app, offering familiarity to users switching platforms. Additionally, the unread message counter has been repositioned to the top left, making it more accessible.

Introducing Offline Mode

A standout feature of the update is the new offline mode, allowing users to access their emails without an active network connection. This feature proves invaluable in areas with limited connectivity. Any emails written or actions taken while offline, such as organizing messages, will be queued and synchronized once a connection is restored.

New Functionalities for Android Users

Android users gain access to features previously exclusive to iOS, including email snoozing and scheduling. This means emails can be drafted and set to send at a later time, enhancing flexibility for professional communications.

Overhauled Settings Menu

The settings menu has received a comprehensive redesign, now supporting management of Security Keys and passwords directly from the app. New options have been introduced for managing Mailbox Preferences, Folders and Labels, Spam and Filters, Privacy and Security, as well as App Customizations. While the app generally performs faster, syncing with the web client can cause delays in settings pages loading.

Rollout and Availability

The redesign is rolling out progressively to Android users, with the update available for download. Interestingly, no new AI features come with this update, as the focus remains on enhancing user experience and maintaining strong security protocols.

This overhaul symbolizes Proton Mail's strategic approach to combining ease of use with robust security measures, positioning itself as a formidable player in the secure email services market.
