Google is reportedly developing a Gemini feature for Android devices that aims to enhance image interaction. This feature allows users to circle or highlight areas in images, directing AI attention to the selected regions.
Development and Functionality
AssembleDebug, a tech-savvy tipster, identified clues in a recent Gemini Android build that describe a circling function for images. Similar to Android's existing Circle to Search, the feature enables users to circle a portion of a screenshot to initiate a query. In practice, Gemini initially references the entire image and proceeds to focus on the highlighted section, offering a concise explanation.
Additionally, the feature may incorporate Google's image AI, known as Nano Banana, to either remove or edit the highlighted parts of the image. However, the circling menu is currently basic, indicating that full integration is still in progress.
Related Google Enhancements
This development coincides with Google's broader AI updates, such as AI Overviews and improvements to Circle to Search. These include features like real-time translation and one-tap actions, currently being rolled out on select devices.
The introduction of Gemini's image circling could offer Android users a more interactive approach to handling images, potentially making searches more precise and targeted.
