YouTube has released a visual redesign across its mobile apps on Android and iOS. The update features bolder and curvier icons alongside other changes previously met with mixed reactions on the web.
Visual Changes in Icons and UI
The redesign brings a fresh look with updated icons appearing on both the top and bottom app bars. Users will notice thicker cast and search icons, as well as new designs for Home, Shorts, and Subscriptions icons. The settings menu icons have also been revamped.
In the player UI, buttons such as like, dislike, and download have been moved into a pill-shaped bubble in full-screen mode. Forward and rewind animations now show simple +10 or -10 indicators, enhancing smoothness.
Redesign Rollout and User Impact
The update is making its way to users incrementally. While some devices have already received the full redesign, others may only see partial changes. Additionally, the introduction of threaded replies is now available through connected lines for all users, not just YouTube Premium subscribers.
Given the gradual nature of the rollout, some features remain in limited testing, meaning not all users will see the same interface at once. This reinforces YouTube’s commitment to refining user experience based on feedback.
