Google has launched a significant redesign of its Voice Search feature on Android devices, enhancing user accessibility and experience. This update, available on the homescreen widget, Pixel Launcher, and within any Google Search bar, modernizes the interface with key improvements.
Enhanced User Interface
The redesigned Voice Search now sports a centered gradient 'G', a back button, and a three-dot overflow menu leading to Voice settings. Users can set languages, manage spoken results, and choose voices such as Cosmo, Neso, Terra, and Cassini. The previous four-dot waveform has been replaced by a 'Listening...' prompt, a face illustration, and a four-color arc under the transcribed query.
Improved Song Search
Notable enhancements include a larger 'Search a song' button. This feature opens a new interface inviting users to 'Play, Sing, Hum', with a shortcut to Song Search history located in the top-right corner.
Release and Future Expectations
This update is gradually rolling out with Google app versions 17.1 (stable) and 17.2 (beta) but is not yet universally available. Many anticipate a corresponding refresh for the text search interface in the near future.
