Google has launched Emergency Live Video, permitting Android users to stream their phone cameras to emergency dispatchers during calls. This feature, available since 2023-12-10, enhances response accuracy when verbal descriptions are inadequate.
Availability and Regions
Emergency Live Video is accessible on Android devices running Android 8 or higher with Google Play Services. It is currently available in the United States, Germany, and Mexico, with expansion plans underway.
Functionality and Encryption
The feature requires no setup. During an emergency call, responders can request live video, prompting the user to accept or initiate sharing. Google's statement assures that all video streams are encrypted and users maintain control over their data.
Integration with Personal Safety Suite
Emergency Live Video complements other Google safety features such as Emergency SOS, Emergency Location Services, Safety Check, Car Crash Detection, and Crisis Alerts. However, availability varies by device, with Car Crash Detection limited to Pixel models.
