Google Play Updates to Enhance Gaming and User Experience

24 Sep 2025

Revamped Gaming Experience

Google Play has begun rolling out a series of significant updates aimed at enhancing user experience and gaming engagement. The tech giant has introduced new gaming features, headlined by a major overhaul of Google Play Games. This update is designed to create a more unified and engaging gaming experience. Users will now benefit from a platform-level gamer profile, enabling them to track stats and achievements across different games and devices. This profile can be customized with a generative AI avatar, adding a personalized touch to the gaming journey.

Integrated Rewards System

One of the standout features of these updates is the integration of Play Points across games and apps. This rewards system will not only incentivize gameplay but also connect users with real-world experiences and merchandise. The addition of a Play Games Leagues feature allows players to compete for Play Points rewards, with the first competition featuring the popular game Subway Surfers set to take place from October 10 to October 23.

Innovative Gaming Support

Additionally, Google is debuting Play Games Sidekick, an in-game overlay powered by Gemini Live. This innovative addition uses screen sharing technology to understand the game context and provide real-time verbal tips, thereby eliminating the need for players to leave their games for external tutorials.

Expanded Catalogue and Platform Accessibility

Google Play Games on PC is officially out of beta, boasting an impressive catalogue of over 200,000 titles available for play across both mobile and desktop platforms. This expansion significantly widens the accessibility and variety of games available to users.

Enhanced User Navigation

A key aspect of the update revolves around improving content discovery. The Play Store is introducing a personalised You tab, intended to serve as a home base for curated content such as rewards, subscriptions, and recommendations. This tab will feature gamer profile content alongside other relevant apps and media, including audiobooks and podcasts.

AI-Powered Search Improvements

The Apps tab within the Play Store will see the introduction of new sections focusing on entertainment and seasonal content. Furthermore, a new Guided Search feature will leverage artificial intelligence to assist users in finding apps tailored to specific needs or interests, such as finding a home or exploring deck-building games.

The updates to the Google Play Store are available now, offering users a richer and more intuitive experience. To take full advantage of these changes, users are encouraged to update to the latest version of the Play Store.
