The Varsity Network app has expanded its college sports audio streaming capabilities to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, offering a free, hands-free experience for fans.
Streaming Features
The Varsity Network app allows users to stream live college games and related content directly through their car's Android Auto or CarPlay system. Users can access live game coverage, pre- and post-game analysis, podcasts, and specialty shows without incurring charges. Notifications for game schedules, live scores, and breaking news keep fans updated in real time.
Content Sourcing
Developed by Sidearm Sports, part of Learfield, the Varsity Network app pulls content from official team broadcasts, Learfield productions, and Westwood One. It provides audio for NCAA events like March Madness and the College World Series. Additionally, the app includes exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes content.
Limitations and Ads
Despite its focus on sports, not all colleges are included, with some like Penn State missing. Occasionally, only the opponent's audio feed is offered. Users may encounter pop-up and audio ads, as well as audio quality issues tied to cellular connectivity, not the app itself. The app provides a streamlined solution compared to others like TuneIn Radio and iHeartRadio, which may limit college sports coverage.
