iFixit has introduced FixBot, a new AI feature in its app for iOS and Android, aimed at enhancing repair processes for users. The app includes the comprehensive iFixit library of repair guides, a battery health monitoring tool, and the AI-driven FixBot designed to mimic a master technician's troubleshooting techniques.
App Features and Availability
The iFixit app now allows users to save device profiles, purchase tools and parts, and access repair guides optimized for mobile use. Introduced as part of this update, FixBot uses input from repair guides, PDF manuals, and forums to assist with diagnostics. The AI is designed to ask questions and eliminate possibilities to pinpoint repairs step by step.
The app currently offers free FixBot use, but certain features like voice control and document uploads will transition to a $4.99/month subscription. This subscription will expand beyond the initial free version's capabilities.
Battery Monitoring and Device Management
A notable app feature is its ability to report current battery health and forecast future degradation, helping users schedule replacements proactively. It includes automatic device detection and the ability to gather battery data from mobile phones.
iFixit has a history with repair apps, having released a prior iPhone app in 2011. The company remains committed to empowering users to open and repair their own devices.
