Google has introduced a new feature in its Phone by Google app, known as Expressive Calling, targeting users in its beta program. This feature provides callers the ability to indicate the reason for their call, including marking it as urgent. This update aims to give call recipients additional context before answering.
How Expressive Calling Works
Expressive Calling allows users to add call context, such as urgency, before the recipient answers. If a call is labeled urgent, the recipient sees an animated siren and the message 'It's urgent!' If missed, this label is retained in the call log. The urgent designation helps recipients choose how to respond, impacting their notification settings.
Availability and Limitations
Initially, Expressive Calling is being tested only in the beta version of Phone by Google. This limitation ensures controlled usage while Google evaluates the feature's impact. Both the caller and the recipient must use the beta app for the feature to function. Google highlighted that overuse of the urgent label could reduce its effectiveness, explaining the gradual rollout.
