OpenAI's Sora 2 app, released just over two weeks ago, has rapidly achieved a record-breaking one million downloads, faster than any previous ChatGPT app. Despite its soaring popularity, the release date for an Android version remains unclear, as the app is listed on the Google Play Store but lacks an official launch date. The update on October 11, 2023, indicates potential future availability.
App Features and Pricing
OpenAI has made strides in making Sora 2 more accessible. The app, which allows for AI video generation, has been priced on Microsoft Azure AI Foundry at $0.10 per second for high-definition video. Meanwhile, consumer features include the ability to create 15-second videos for general users and 25-second clips for Pro subscribers. Additionally, a storyboard feature offers enhanced scene control. The initial rollout suggests Sora 2 will be free on Android, with enhanced capabilities available to subscribers.
Beware of Fake Apps
Following the launch of Sora 2, the App Store saw a flood of imitation apps. Over a dozen fake versions appeared, collecting more than 300,000 installations. Similar suspicious apps have also been identified on Google Play. Consumers are cautioned to verify the authenticity of the app, as many of these imitators feature ads, aggressive paywalls, or malware that deceive users into paying for fake services.
