Google Play Store has introduced a new feature, 'Where to Watch', which lists apps and services offering a movie or TV show directly in the Play Search. This update aims to simplify how users find streaming options.
How It Works
To use the feature, users open the Search tab in Google Play and look up a title. The store then displays a card listing apps where the content is available to stream, rent, or buy. It also provides install prompts for apps not currently on the user's device. Notably, the feature does not display rental or purchase prices, subscription fees, or ratings.
Feature Rollout and Scope
According to Google, the 'Where to Watch' feature began its rollout on 2025-11-15 and users can expect to see it on their devices soon. In an example provided by Google, searching for 'The Last of Us' brings up a card showing apps like HBO Max, YouTube TV, and Prime Video as streaming options.
Market Context
This move is seen as part of Google's effort to enhance app discovery, providing a straightforward alternative to services like JustWatch or Letterboxd. By integrating the feature directly into Google Play Search, users get a centralized approach to explore available streaming platforms without leaving the app.
