Google Messages is currently testing several enhancements in its user interface aimed at improving media handling and location-sharing features, as identified in a recent APK build.
Enhanced Media Handling
Among the notable changes, the application may soon allow users to directly open saved media files. This option will enable users to view saved files in alternative apps or confirm successful saves, streamlining the process of media management within the app.
Location Sharing Updates
The way location sharing is labeled and potentially functioned in conversations is undergoing revision. The current "share current location" option in the in-conversation plus-menu could be enhanced. It involves references to "enable_live_location_sharing_extension," suggesting the possibility of either live location sharing or more explicit wording for one-time location sharing. These updates may provide users with more clarity and flexibility on how they share their locations.
Gemini Assistant Changes
Additionally, Google is enhancing the visibility of its Gemini assistant within Messages. The floating action button for the Gemini assistant is being increased in size to match the appearance of the chat button, possibly making it more accessible and user-friendly.
These updates were discovered through an APK teardown, and it remains unclear when, or if, these features will be publicly available. As Google continues to innovate, these potential updates could signify more significant changes in how users interact with location and media sharing in Google Messages.
