Google is set to introduce 'Projects' for Gemini within its Android app, enabling users to create task-focused AI workspaces directly on their mobile devices. The latest app build includes a new Projects section, pointing towards a shift from web-only to mobile usage.
Features in Latest Build
The Android app, version 16.47.49 (arm64), features Gemini's Projects option and a New Project control in the side menu. Although these buttons are currently inactive, they suggest upcoming capabilities for on-device project creation. Users will reportedly be able to attach up to 10 files per project, facilitating a concentrated knowledge base and a memory layer at the project level. The file limit could potentially vary based on the plan.
Mobile-First Project Management
Integrating Gemini Projects into the Android ecosystem facilitates a mobile-first approach, streamlining user workflows. This feature aims to centralize prompts, instructions, and files for various goals such as academic work, client proposals, or coding tasks. By reducing the need for frequent context switching, this implementation is likely to minimize off-topic replies and hallucinations, ensuring uniformity across team files.
Anticipated UI Enhancements
The application is also exploring several UI changes, including an account switcher shortcut to NotebookLM and relocating scheduled actions to the main menu, which could enhance workflow and automation visibility. Questions still remain regarding cross-device synchronization across Android, iOS, and web, alongside concerns about supported file types, file sizes, sharing capabilities, and enterprise control settings. These features, spotted in pre-release versions, suggest a strong focus on prioritizing mobile Gemini Projects.
