Google has introduced Advanced Protection mode in Android 16 to bolster app and system security. The October update to Google Play services features a new screen that displays which apps request the device's Advanced Protection status.
New Security Screen Features
This screen, initially previewed in August 2023, allows users to identify apps that query their Advanced Protection state. It informs how these apps might adjust their security behavior in response.
The introduction of this feature is currently limited to a small number of devices, with mainly Google applications like Phone, Messages, and Chrome being the first to utilize this information. However, it is expected that third-party apps will begin to adopt this capability as well.
Enhanced Privacy Measures
Advanced Protection mode is designed to enhance user privacy by providing greater transparency and control over which applications access sensitive security status information. This update reflects Google's ongoing efforts to improve user data protection in its Android ecosystem.
