Android Unified Quick Share Boosts File Transfers

29 Dec 2025

Quick Share has launched as part of a unified Android file transfer system, revolutionizing how users transfer photos, videos, and documents between devices. The feature is designed to provide a seamless experience akin to Apple's AirDrop. It promises speed, privacy, and broad compatibility.

Functionality and Speed

Quick Share uses peer-to-peer technology to send files without compromising quality, achieving throughput of up to 200 MB/s in optimal conditions. Bluetooth and Location services ensure private discovery of nearby devices, while Wi-Fi Direct facilitates high-speed transfers. In the absence of Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth can handle smaller transfers. A QR code option is also available for single-use exchanges.

Device Support and Security

The system is compatible with most Android devices running version 6.0 or later, extending even to Windows PCs and Chrome desktops. Enhanced security measures include encrypted connections, password protection, and customizable visibility settings. Recent Pixel devices can now share files with iPhone via AirDrop, with plans for broader compatibility.

Usage and Optimization

To use Quick Share, a sender opens a file, selects Share, opts for Quick Share, and chooses the recipient. Recipients need to enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and set Quick Share visibility accordingly. For transferring to a Windows PC, a companion app is required. Users can improve performance by keeping devices close, disabling battery savers for large transfers, and ensuring essential services are enabled.
