Google Wallet Adds Custom Nicknames to Passes

17 Oct 2025

Google Wallet now allows users to add custom nicknames, up to 25 characters long, to their digital passes, including loyalty cards, event tickets, and transit passes. This update is designed to improve the user experience by simplifying access to these passes.

Enhancing Pass Management

Users can assign nicknames to their passes, which appear under the pass title on Google Wallet's main screen. This feature is especially beneficial for users with multiple passes from the same provider, as it aids in differentiating and quickly locating specific passes.

  • Open a pass and tap the three-dot menu.
  • Select 'Add a nickname' to customize your pass.

Integration with Existing Features

The nickname feature complements a range of existing tools aimed at enhancing Google Wallet's functionality:

  • An AI-powered tool that converts photos into digital passes, available in the US.
  • Nearby Passes alerts users when they are close to locations where their saved passes are applicable.
  • Automatic pass addition from Gmail when Smart features are enabled.
  • Smart Tap Merchant Invites enable users to join loyalty programs post-purchase.

These updates focus on making Google Wallet more than just a storage solution, aiming to increase its proactive and user-friendly nature.
