YouTube Music Introduces New Dual-Pane Interface Update

15 Sep 2025

YouTube Music is reimagining the user experience by rolling out a redesigned Now Playing screen that adopts a dual-pane layout. This significant update aligns with the platform’s commitment to enhancing user interaction. While the album cover continues to hold its central position, the media controls are conveniently placed beneath it, making accessibility simpler for the user.

A notable change is the removal of the audio/video toggle, previously located above the cover. Instead, a streamlined action row has been introduced just below the media controls. This row houses important functions such as like, dislike, comments, and the option to add tracks to a playlist. Additionally, Lyrics have found a new home within this action row, allowing for more seamless navigation.

A New Dynamic System

Enhancing the dynamic nature of the interface, a floating, swipeable bottom bar now reveals the Up Next list. Users can swipe up partially to see a preview of the next four songs or fully extend it to explore a more comprehensive lineup. In instances where the Up Next list or the Lyrics/Related section is fully open, the album cover is minimized and repositioned to the top left corner, displaying the song title, artist, cast icon, and menu succinctly.

Initial feedback indicates that this interface update has begun rolling out to both Android and iOS devices as of September 12. Notably, the update requires no additional downloads, demonstrating YouTube Music’s focus on user convenience.

Celebrating Milestones and Looking Ahead

This update arrives on the heels of YouTube Music's 10th anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, the platform is teasing a suite of forthcoming features aimed at enriching the user experience further. Among these are 'taste match' playlists, designed to merge and reflect the musical preferences of two listeners, paving the way for a more personalized listening journey. Users can also look forward to receiving live performance notifications and alerts about upcoming shows, providing a bridge between the digital and live music worlds.

With such thoughtful enhancements, YouTube Music demonstrates its ongoing dedication to evolving and adapting to the ever-changing landscape of digital music consumption, staying at the forefront of the streaming industry.
