Google is set to introduce a 'Try Before You Buy' feature in the Play Store, enabling users to trial paid games temporarily without cost. This feature, spotted in the APK version 49.6.19-29, primarily targets games but could extend to paid apps.
Feature Details and Implementation
The new 'Try Before You Buy' option will allow developers to offer time-limited free trials for premium games. Users can carry forward their trial progress to full games upon purchase. Each user gets one trial per game, lasting a few minutes to several hours. If attempted more than once, users will encounter a message indicating the trial is already utilized.
This initiative aims to allow users to explore new game titles, evaluate game quality, and improve developers' conversion rates.
Related Changes in Play Store
Simultaneously, starting from 2026-03-01, Google will highlight apps that cause excessive battery drain directly in app listings. Apps with significant battery consumption will be removed from recommendation lists, aiming to enhance user experience.
