Amazon App Update Introduces New Interface and Rufus AI Assistant

18 Sep 2024

The Amazon app for Android has recently received a subtle yet noteworthy update, introducing a fresh interface alongside the integrated Rufus AI shopping assistant. This enhancement, which began rolling out to U.S. customers in late August, is now becoming more widely available across various Android devices. Users with app version 28.17.0.100 and higher can expect to see these changes. For those who haven't yet noticed the update, a simple force stop and relaunch of the app may do the trick.

Redesigned Interface

Upon launching the updated Amazon app, users will immediately observe a redesigned search bar, replacing the longstanding blue gradient section that has characterized the app for years. This area has been streamlined, featuring smaller tabbed sections for different store categories and a less prominent delivery location tab, creating a cleaner and more efficient user experience.

Additionally, the app’s layout has been adjusted to better integrate recently viewed items into banner ads, while an extra Rufus icon has been added to the bottom navigation bar. Activating this icon opens up a wealth of information on products or services, allowing users to quickly compare items—a particularly valuable feature given the limitations of the single-product view that the Amazon Android app traditionally offers.

Enhanced Shopping Experience

While many of the changes are centered around the new AI tool, users will also find an expandable tab when viewing a product. This feature enables quick inquiries or access to answers about the item, enhancing the overall shopping experience. Importantly, all core functionalities remain intact, with sections such as account information retaining their familiar layout from previous versions of the app.
