Google Unveils Android Device Streaming for App Testing at I/O 2024

07 Aug 2024

During the recent Google I/O 2024 event, the tech giant unveiled an innovative approach to enhance the app development process. With a focus on providing developers with a safer and more efficient means to test their applications remotely, Google has initiated early access to its Android Device Streaming service, now compatible with Samsung, OPPO, and Xiaomi smartphones.

Developers Can Remotely Test Their Apps on Samsung Phones via Google’s Android Device Streaming

The Android Device Streaming tool allows developers to securely access a range of Android devices for the purpose of testing apps and games prior to their launch on the Play Store. Previously limited to Google devices, this expansion now includes models from prominent manufacturers such as OPPO, Samsung, and Xiaomi, all powered by OmniLab technology.

Among the Samsung devices available for testing through this platform are the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S9, and Galaxy Tab S9+. Notably, the tool also supports testing on foldable Galaxy phones, enabling developers to evaluate their applications in various orientations—whether the device is folded, unfolded, or rotated.

Once testing is complete, Google ensures a thorough data wipe and factory reset of the device, making it ready for use by other developers. This entire process is seamlessly integrated within Android Studio, the official development environment for Android applications and games.

Looking ahead, Google has plans to incorporate additional physical devices into Android Studio, further enriching the testing landscape for developers. Those interested in participating in the Early Access Program (EAP) can sign up through the designated link, after which Google will notify them regarding their acceptance into the program.
