Everand App Faces Black Screen Issue on Android Auto After Recent Update

03 Sep 2024

Android Auto users are currently facing a frustrating challenge with Everand, a widely-used eBook and audiobook application boasting over 10 million downloads and a commendable 4.7-star rating on the Google Play Store. This app, which allows users to enjoy audiobooks while driving, has recently encountered a significant issue that has left many users staring at a black screen.

Black Screen Dilemma

Since late August, Everand’s integration with Android Auto has faltered, displaying only a blank screen when users attempt to access the playback interface. While the audiobooks continue to play in the background, the inability to interact with the app on the screen poses a safety risk, tempting users to reach for their phones—a dangerous distraction while driving.

Despite the ongoing playback, the lack of visual feedback has led to calls for an urgent update to rectify the situation. Interestingly, this glitch does not appear to stem from Google’s usual array of bugs; instead, it seems to be linked to a recent update from Everand itself. Users have reported reaching out to Everand’s development team, but the solutions provided have not restored the app’s functionality as expected.

Attempts to Resolve the Issue

In an effort to troubleshoot, users have engaged in common practices within the Android Auto community, such as clearing the app cache and deleting data for both Everand and Android Auto. Unfortunately, these measures have not yielded any improvement, leaving the black screen issue unresolved.

While some users have claimed that the latest Everand update has fixed the problem, others have found no change, with the app remaining non-functional when connected to Android Auto. Consequently, the only recourse for users has been to control playback via their mobile devices, a cumbersome and unsafe alternative.

Future Developments

Amidst these challenges, Google is diligently working to enhance the Android Auto experience. Recent updates indicate that new features are on the horizon, including support for listening to radio stations and the long-awaited capability to play local media from USB drives connected to the head unit. However, Google has not disclosed a timeline for the rollout of these features, leaving users eagerly anticipating improvements.
