Gemini has officially made its debut on the Pixel Tablet, provided users have the app installed. This integration retains a portion of the Google Assistant experience, ensuring a familiar interface for users transitioning to the new platform.
Expanded Accessibility
As of Tuesday, Android tablet users can now easily download the Gemini app from the Play Store, expanding its accessibility. Initially, the Gemini listing, identified as com.google.android.apps.bard, was not compatible with the Pixel Tablet. However, users who opted to sideload the homescreen shortcut can now navigate through a specific setup process designed for tablets, a feature that was unavailable previously.
The user interface mirrors that of the inner screen of the Pixel Fold, although it is not fully optimized for larger displays. Fortunately, the Gemini panel is centered, providing a balanced visual experience.
Seamless Integration with Google Assistant
On the Pixel Tablet, Google Assistant continues to function seamlessly in Hub Mode. When docked on its Charging Speaker Dock, users can activate the Assistant by simply saying “Hey Google,” enjoying the same experience as before, rather than switching to Gemini. This feature remains particularly beneficial for executing smart home commands until Gemini incorporates native Google Home control through extensions and lockscreen access.
Google initially announced the arrival of Gemini on the Pixel Tablet alongside the launch of Circle to Search in May, signaling a significant step in enhancing user interaction and functionality on the device.
