Google Reinstates Noise Control for Android 15, Enhances Volume Panel

18 Sep 2024

In a notable move to refine user experience, Google is rolling out an audio feature update for Android 15, which includes the much-anticipated return of the Noise Control option for connected audio devices. This development, highlighted by tech commentator Mishaal Rahman on X, aims to provide users with enhanced control over ANC and transparency modes for earbuds such as the Pixel Buds Pro.

Back in April, during Developer Preview 2, Google introduced a redesign of Android 15’s volume panel, offering a more spacious and visually clear interface for managing sound levels. The new panel features pill-shaped volume sliders, and users can now mute audio streams simply by tapping the source icon. However, the initial rollout saw the omission of the Noise Control button when connecting to Pixel Buds Pro, a feature that many users found essential.

Fortunately, the return of this button, or “Slice,” is facilitated by the Pixel Buds app, which integrates control of the earbuds directly into the volume panel. This reinstatement is a welcome enhancement, restoring a level of convenience that users had come to rely on.

An XL Pixel

The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL has made its debut, reintroducing a familiar name to the lineup. This flagship model boasts a generous 6.8-inch display and incorporates many of Google’s latest Gemini features, providing on-device AI assistance across various scenarios.

In addition to these updates, Google has also released Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 for testers, addressing various Pixel-specific Bluetooth and system bugs. This update not only fixes issues but also teases future enhancements, including a redesign of the Quick Settings menu. While speculation suggests that these changes may not be fully realized until Android 16, the anticipation continues to build.

As users await the official rollout of Android 15, expected in October, the excitement surrounding these updates underscores Google’s commitment to refining the Android experience.
