Google to Launch Enhanced Weather Widgets for Android Devices

16 Jul 2024

The Google app is currently in the works to launch new Weather homescreen widgets that aim to revamp the existing set of widgets, which are currently only available for Pixel devices. The goal is to make these widgets accessible for all Android devices in the near future.

Overall, the design of the new widgets closely resembles the current ones available. The layout includes the city displayed in the top-left corner along with the temperature and high/low for the day. The condition icon and status are positioned on the right side, accompanied by a convenient refresh button in the corner for easy updates. Additionally, the new widgets offer a six-hour forecast instead of the previous four-hour forecast.

Enhanced Weather Information at a Glance

One of the new widgets features a 3-day forecast at the bottom, providing users with more detailed weather information at a glance. There is also a portrait widget option that includes the city name and high/low temperatures. Users can choose between light and dark theme versions, with the dark theme utilizing the old icon set.

The widget picker previews for these upcoming homescreen widgets have been spotted in the latest Google app beta version 15.28. However, they have not been officially released yet. The introduction of these widgets coincides with the launch of Android 15, which includes a new “Pixel Weather” section in the widget picker. Additionally, the “Pixel Weather” background service powers the integration with the Google Clock app.

Commitment to User Experience

It is important to note that the information presented is based on decompiled files from the Google app, and features mentioned may or may not be rolled out in the future. The development of these widgets showcases Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience and providing more customization options for Android users.
