This in-app direct messaging feature aims to simplify how users share music, podcasts, and audiobooks by allowing these exchanges directly within the Spotify platform. Available in select markets, this feature targets both Free and Premium users who are 16 years old or older.
How It Works
Utilizing the Messages feature is straightforward. Users can tap the share icon visible within the Now Playing view and select a friend from their list to share content with. Once a message is sent, recipients have the option to accept or reject these requests and can respond with text or emoji reactions, allowing for a personalized communication experience.
One-on-One Interaction
The feature supports one-on-one conversations, connecting users who have interacted previously through Spotify features such as Jams, Blends, or Collaborative Playlists, or those sharing a Family or Duo plan. Shared content is safely stored in a Messages inbox, accessible from the user's profile picture icon. Emphasizing privacy and security, Spotify ensures that all exchanges through Messages are protected by industry-standard encryption and adheres to its existing content moderation policies.
Complementing Social Media
To clarify its intentions, Spotify indicates that the Messages feature is designed to complement, not replace, existing social media sharing integrations. This means users can still enjoy seamless content sharing on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok while having the added convenience of direct communication within Spotify itself.
