ChatGPT Now Integrated with KakaoTalk in South Korea

28 Oct 2025

ChatGPT has been integrated into KakaoTalk, South Korea’s leading chat platform, allowing users to access AI features directly within the app. The integration, launched by Kakao, enables users to ask questions, generate content, and share AI-created materials without leaving the chat interface.

Integration Details and Plans

Existing ChatGPT users can sign in with OpenAI credentials, while new users can register using Kakao accounts. The service mirrors ChatGPT’s global structure, offering free and paid options. A subscription rebate is available for ChatGPT Plus purchases through KakaoTalk until 2023-12-31.

ChatGPT connects with Kakao services through Kakao Tools, integrating seamlessly with applications like Kakao Map, Kakao Gift, and Melon. For instance, inquiries about nearby locations will yield Kakao Map results.

Privacy and Future Development

The service emphasizes privacy, allowing users to control chat storage and data contributions for AI training under Kakao and OpenAI policies. As part of its AI strategy, Kakao is testing Kanana, an on-device assistant poised for an Android rollout next year.

Kakao aims to develop an AI-agent ecosystem encompassing messaging, content, commerce, and navigation. The company is also opening PlayMCP, enabling third-party AI tool registration.
