Instagram and Facebook Messenger Experience Recent Outages

23 Aug 2025

This afternoon, many users experienced issues accessing Instagram and Facebook Messenger, as reports of outages continued to surface globally. Just after 15:45, several individuals took to social media to express their difficulties, noting Instagram as the primary platform affected.

Outage Details and User Impact

Downdetector, a site that monitors online outages, logged more than 200 reports of problems with Instagram, alongside at least 50 similar reports for Facebook Messenger. Users reported being unable to log into Instagram, a problem that constituted 70% of the total complaints.

  • Approximately 500 users in the UK noted disruptions within a short, 10-minute window.
  • More than 1,500 reports came from India in response to a previous global incident.

User Reactions and Resolution

Frustrated users aired their grievances across various platforms, looking for answers and expressing their impatience with the downtime. Despite the initial flood of complaints, the issues were largely resolved by early evening. According to Downdetector, by 7:43am, the number of logged issues had significantly diminished, with only 44 reports remaining.
