Apple Discontinues Clips App: Urges Users to Save Videos

14 Oct 2025

Apple has announced the discontinuation of its Clips app, which allowed iPhone and iPad users to create and share videos with special effects, graphics, and text. After being available since April 2017, the Clips app is no longer downloadable.

Continued Use and Support

While Clips will no longer receive updates after October 10, 2025, users who previously downloaded it can still utilize the app on devices running iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 and earlier. Apple has ensured that users can redownload the app from their Apple account in the App Store.

Guidelines for Saving Clips Videos

To prevent loss of content, Apple advises users to save their videos from the Clips app into either the Photos library or the Files app. To save a video, open it, tap Options > Video, select the desired settings like Aspect Ratio, tap Done, and then choose a save option: Save Video for the photo library or Save to Files for a different location.

To save clips recorded directly in a Clips project without effects, open the project, select a clip, swipe left on the tools, and tap Save Clip; this saves it to the photo library and adds it to a Clips album.
