Boost Performance via Windows Settings Adjustments

21 Dec 2025

Windows PCs come with default settings prioritizing compatibility and battery life, potentially affecting performance. Adjusting settings can enhance responsiveness for gamers and creative professionals.

Improving Settings

Delivery Optimization on Windows allows your PC to download updates from other devices, consuming bandwidth and RAM. Disabling it can free up resources: navigate to Settings > Windows Update > Delivery Optimization.

The default Power Mode, Balanced, conserves energy but limits performance. Switching to High performance can maximize speed: go to Settings > System > Power & battery > Power mode.

Some displays support higher refresh rates but default to 60Hz in Windows. Adjust this for smoother visuals: Settings > System > Display > Advanced display and select the highest available rate.

Resource Management

Animations and transparency effects enhance aesthetics but utilize GPU and resources. Disable them for faster operation: Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects, and toggle off Transparency and Animation effects.

Control apps running in the background or at startup, as they impact CPU and RAM usage. Modify background permissions per app in Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Advanced options > Background app permissions > Never. Use Task Manager to manage startup apps to boost boot speed and free resources.
