BF6 May Add 'Wait' Option for Custom Searches

12 Oct 2025

Battlefield 6 may introduce a 'happy to wait' toggle for custom searches after community feedback revealed frustrations with current matchmaking processes, according to DICE.

Custom Search Challenges

The custom search tool in Battlefield 6 allows players to select specific maps and modes. However, many users report being matched with different games than intended as the matchmaking system broadens its search to avoid long waits. This behavior, as explained by global community manager Kevin Johnson, prioritizes selected options while expanding searches for quicker matchmaking.

YouTubers Westie and Squid-G voiced their dissatisfaction. Westie was assigned to Mirak Valley instead of the desired Operation Firestorm. Squid-G faced a similar issue, ending up in Cairo rather than Manhattan Bridge.

Potential Solutions and Player Feedback

DICE producer Alexia Christofi inquired whether players might appreciate a toggle allowing them to wait for their preferred matches. Both YouTubers expressed their support for such an option. Christofi acknowledged that the team is considering balancing rapid matchmaking with giving players specific game experiences, expressing a willingness to include this toggle.

The team also aims to let custom search settings persist across sessions, improving the overall user experience.

Future Enhancements Considered

Questions regarding a traditional server browser, which players have desired for greater server control, were addressed by lead producer David Sirland. According to Sirland, DICE views the Portal as a potential launching point for more persistent servers and controlled environments. Christofi confirmed plans to enhance Portal and the server browser, stressing that these upgrades will align with other priority developments.
