Microsoft has launched the first preview build of Windows 11 version 26H1, targeting devices with next-gen silicon. This release is available to Insiders in the Canary Channel but doesn't update existing 25H2 systems.
Next-Gen Silicon Support
Version 26H1 is engineered exclusively for future devices incorporating next-gen Qualcomm X2 and NVIDIA N1X processors. This version introduces platform changes necessary for supporting these advanced hardware components. Current Windows 11 users with 25H2 will not see this version as an update.
Bromine Platform and Build Details
The 26H1 release is built on a new Windows platform codenamed Bromine. The Canary build, identified as build 28000, is speculated to be the initial RTM for Bromine. Unlike 26H1, ongoing feature development continues on the 25H2 base, with new features being first available to Insiders via the Dev and Beta Channels.
Future Updates and Cadence
Microsoft maintains its annual update cycle, planning the next major update—version 26H2—for the second half of 2026. This update will incorporate substantial features for existing Windows 11 PCs.
