Windows 11 users are set to see a significant Start menu redesign this week. The update rolls out as part of November's Patch Tuesday, making apps more accessible with a scrollable interface.
Start Menu Enhancements
This updated Start menu allows users to view all applications directly on the homepage, eliminating the need to open 'All apps.' Apps are now grouped into automatically generated categories based on similarities, such as Productivity. Pinned apps and recommendations feature prominently, while excess apps fall under an 'Other' category.
Although users currently cannot create custom categories, the traditional grid view is still available, listing apps alphabetically from A to Z. The menu dynamically adapts to accommodate different screen sizes. Larger screens display eight columns of pinned apps, six recommendations, and four categories. Smaller screens present six pinned columns, four recommendations, and three categories.
Additional Patch Tuesday Updates
Beyond the Start menu, other November Patch Tuesday updates include an optional battery percentage display with a color indicator, and a new 'Recommended' section in File Explorer, replacing 'Quick Access.' Furthermore, enhancements have been made to Voice Access and Click to Do features.
These updates do not require a full system reinstall. Windows 11 users should ensure their systems are set to update automatically to receive these new features.
